The right to protest is a fundamental right, but one I’ve never felt the need to exercise until now. And with the eco-loons’ negative approach to protest that does more harm than good, standing up to the powers that be has had a bad press recently. However tomorrow I will be attending a protest at Parliament Square in London to put pressure on the government to sort out the complete shambles that is education for children with special needs in this country. Will it make a difference? Who knows. But it is something I am so passionate about that I just have to be there to show my support to the hundreds or thousands of other people in the same situation as us where we have to battle to local authority just to get our daughter an education. A local authority that doesn’t abide by the law and its own code of practice. It won’t help Victoria but it might help stop others that will follow us on their own autism journey from going through the same pain we are.
Whether you are as passionate about this cause as I am or not, your support would be very much appreciated in one of the following ways:
- Please sign the petition here which is currently at just over 60k signatures
- Have a read of some of the stories on the SEND Reform England Facebook group to understand the scale of this issue and what parents like are are challenged with when it comes to the education of our children
- Please share this blog post – someone you know might be as keen to join the protest and make their voice heard as I am
I promise not to glue my face to a bollard and will do my best not to get arrested!
